Time to start blogging again...

So what have I been doing for the last year or so...

Growing flowers

Entertaining Grandkids

And teaching them to sew

And of course a little Quilting of my own

And I participated in the Row by Row Experience this year

What a blast it was!  All of these rows are from Utah but maybe next year they will come from a different state.  But the best part is that I was the first to turn my finished quilt  in to my local quilt shop and I won fat quarter bundle.

25 gorgeous fabrics from Riley Blake
Lucky Me!!!  (But it was a lot of work)

And now...

I am working on two BOM's with Deanna at DOD mystery.  One is an Americana Quilt and the other is a Spring Quilt.  Here is a sample of my beginning rows.

First row of the Spring Garden Quilt
Third row of the Americana Quilt
First row of the Americana Quilt

Can't wait to get them done...they can hang in the closet with the other finished quilt tops until I get to do the quilting on them.

You can still join the quilt along over at Deanna's if you want, all you do is finish one block a month and post it on her blog and then you get the next month's block for free.

See you soon, Vickie

Let's Book It, New FO challenge

It's the end of the month and time for show and tell.  I finished all of my "A Tisket A Tasket" blocks and got them all sewn together.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. :)  I think that hand quilting is the way to go with this one and LUCKY ME, I took it to the Senior Citizen's Center, where I do blood pressure clinic once a month and the sweet ladies there volunteered to quilt it for me.  How could I resist?  I can't wait to see it when it gets done.

For my Let's Book It.... this  month I chose a pattern from this Fon's and Porter Love of Quilting Magazine from 2012

I love to decorate with watermelons in August and September.

There was no corel or striped fabric in my stash but there was plenty of watermelon fabric so this is how mine turned out.

I won an awesome giveaway from Deonn Stott from Quiltscapes

Isn't the little lamb quilt on the cover adorable?!  The new Quiltmaker magazine, a hexi ruler and 2 fat quarter bundles of fabric were my winnings plus a Mormon Tabernacle Choir CD not shown.  This will be perfect for my grandson due this summer.

The NewFO challenge contribution this month is a whole bunch of pillow cases to be made for a pillow case challenge There are 5 shown are to be sewn up and sent off to the Utah Quilt Guild later this month.

I joined a Quilt Guild!  How fun it is!!! We had a little retreat last weekend and had a demonstration on how to make this...

On the flip side it looks like this....

Now I'm ready for Spring and Summer and can't wait to make a few more.

It will be a while before I remember everyone's name but I did get a few photo's which got me nominated for historian but I'm pretending that didn't happen.  I snapped a few photo's before my phone went dead.

Adding applique to already made pillow cases, great idea!

Nothing keeps a quilter down, not even foot surgery.

More pillow cases.

Looks like she's starting on the Quilt around, her center will be adorable.

Serging those
 pillowcases, great idea!

And we made these darling little pin cushions

We ate and talked and laughed and there were prizes Oh my
goodness what have I been missing?

My husband and I decided to add a playground to the backyard and the 3 grand kids that are living with us right now think Grandpa is amazing. He did do a pretty great job!  Nice view huh?

That's it for now, I better blog more often if the month is going to be as busy as the last one was.  Thanks for stopping in for a visit.

March projects

I found my way to the sewing room again this month and tackled a couple of projects.  One of my favorites is this BOM A Tisket a Tasket from Bunny Hill Designs from, ahem... 2010.  I have just about finished up the hand appliqued blocks and am itching to put them all together into a quilt top to save for when I get the chance to longarm quilt it.

Just look at this darling wall hanging from the adorable Kim at Kimberbell Stitches.  This pattern is posted in the Spring 2014 issue of Quilts & More and Kim has agreed to create a new wall hanging for each season.  Kim came to a quilt retreat we had here in town (my first ever) and presented her adorable trunk show.  What a talented lady!

The Quiltmaker magazine came today and I can't wait to get started on the next installment of the BOM project. I did finish the last two blocks from the last magazine.  It's called Love Blooms Here.

Last month I went to a Quilt Guild meeting, I've only been to one other guild meeting so it was fun to try something new.  They started doing a Round Robin and the instructions were to make a center block and this is what I came up with.  This last month we were to add a border using half square triangles to measure 3-6 inches after a stop border, I think the zigzag border works well.  I'm really excited to see how project turns out.

There are so many projects and such little time!!!

What a pleasure to hook up with other passionate people at  Cat Patches for 2014 New FO Challenge and at Vrooman Quilts for Let's book it.  Go on over and check out what new and creative things are in the works.

Lets Book It

It's been a while since I blogged.  I'm so sad to have been away for so long.  We are busy living life here at my house these days.  I have been doing very little sewing and quilting but have spent some time in the Quilt Cottage doing some much needed organizing.  My fabric was so jumbled that I couldn't even see most of it so I started searching blogs, Pinterest, anywhere that would give me some ideas for fabric organization ...

So far I am up to about 400 yards of fabric in my stash but that doesn't count the fat quarters or pieces that are in the bins.  I had no idea that I had so much fabric but on the other hand I do remember some pretty good sales when I got the fabric for 75% off at least a couple of times.  Doesn't it look Beautiful?!

VroomansQuilts

Today I'm hooking up with Sharon at Vrooman Quilts for  "Let's Book It".  I was so glad to have some motivation sent my way when I saw the tab on Sharon's blog.  The goal is to find one of those magazines or books full of projects you have wanted to make and actually make something.  I chose the new Quiltmaker Block of the Month to start with.

These are the blocks for January thru April and I can't wait for the next Magazine to come out!  While I'm at it I may as well hook up with Cat Patches for New FO 2014.

Long Lost Blogger here...

Wow it's been a long time since I blogged.  It sure seems that when one thing goes wrong then another thing happens then another and another and so on and eventually it has to all catch up to you.  Well that's pretty much what happened.  I have really missed my blogging friends and can't wait to catch up.

I wanted to show the quilts I made for the grand kids for Christmas this past year.  I started in August 2013 with the Hexigon blog hop when I made the huge decision to mass produce quilts.  These are the two I made for the blog hop.

Presley age 2
Oliver age 3

Then came the rest....

Fiona age 11
Everyone got a label for their quilt similar to this one.

Harlee age 6

Lexi age 7

Devri age 11

Amy (just because) age 18 I think

Kamryn age 7

Sasha age 7

TADA!!!

I had them all done and quilted by the first week in November.  I will try to be a better blogger and get out to the sewing room more often.  I do feel a sense of accomplishment in completing these 9 quilts in such a short time.  Come back again soon.  Vickie
