OOPS!

Well it looks like my domain name expired...A few months ago my check card was hacked out of google wallet and I forgot to change to the new card.  I did get a reminder about a month ago but couldn't find out how to renew it and then got busy and forgot about it.  I guess they meant business because I cannot sign back up.  I am beyond frustrated with the whole thing.  I don't want to lose the content of my blog but can't seem to fix this problem.  So if any of my regular readers are getting this then please accept my apologies for the confusion.  For now this is my blog at www.acreativenotion.blogspot.com  That being said...

October Happenings

It's time to link up to the NewFO Challenge over at Cat Patches.  It's fun to do Show and Tell and it motivates me to get into the sewing room and get busy.  If you'd like to join us just link up.

September finishes and beginnings starting with Doll Quilt Swaps.  These two have been received by my two partners and they said that they liked them so I guess it's safe to share with you.  Fall is my favorite season when the air cools off and I can feel comfortable in my skin.  Isn't menopause fun and will it ever end????

I didn't measure the quilts  but the Maple leaves are 5 inch squares.

I've been working on my goal to make 8 quilts for the grand kids for Christmas and these two are almost finished.  I have the border fabric and need to get it on then quilting later this month.

I just couldn't put a white background with these beautiful fabrics because although these girls are cute they are still little messes.

I also participated in a "Pretty Pouch Swap" with Anthea in Australia.  I sent it to her a few weeks ago and she doesn't have it yet and I haven't received mine either but we are both looking forward to see each other's creations.  I sure hope she likes it.

 I've been wanting to make this pouch for some time.  I embroidered the flowers on the outside before I quilted it with straight line quilting.

Inside I added some clear vinyl pockets to hold goodies

I made a tissue holder and needle case and a scissor keeper which isn't shown,  to match along with lots of fun goodies.

Dolly Babies...

 Presley's daddy asked if I would make a little dolly and a purse for her because her big sisters wouldn't share.  So I found the cutest little rag doll pattern and added some yarn for hair, added a dress a little blankie and presented it to her and another little girl who also needed a dolly and blankie.

Presley is 2.  I hope she learns how to wear clothes before she starts school!

Sorry about the naked baby picture but she will not keep clothes on.  I love the adoring look on her face.  She calls her  Dolly Baby.

August NewFo

August has been the busiest month ever!  The garden has been producing so fast we can barely keep up with it.  And with the Hexie Blog Hop I had to get busy and make a few projects which also gave me a head start on Christmas gifts.  So today for the 2013 NewFo Challenge I have lots of photo's to share. 

I am almost finished with this Schnibbles Quilt called Canasta.  I made it out of 30's reproduction fabrics and the baskets blocks are 5 1/2 inches.  It took me a lot longer than I thought it would.  I love it though.

My Grand daughter Fiona has been working on this teddy bear for several weeks.  She picked out the fabric and made it mostly herself.  I am so proud of her and hope she continues to have the desire to sew and create.  Fiona is 11 and the oldest of my 8 grand kids.  

Garden Produce

Bottled Banana Squash for Pies, went into the freezer.

This quilt is for Amy my niece.  She lives in Idaho.  My mom and I went to visit them early August and she picked out the fabric and pattern.

More Canning...Mustard Relish and Pepper Relish, Pickles, Apple Pie Filling, Pasta Sauce, BBQ Sauce, you get the picture.

My Favorite Jelly Roll Quilt

I'm linking up with Sherri at A Quilting Life to show off my favorite Jelly Roll Quilt.  Truth be told I've only ever made one Jelly Roll Quilt.  I was browsing around the internet to find a cute pattern to make another Jelly Roll Quilt when I came across her link up party.

 A couple of years ago I was in a Postage Stamp Quilt Along over at Rachel's place P.S. I Quilt  and this is what I made.

I love the happy colors in this quilt and would make it again anytime.  With grand kids around I may not use the white Jelly Roll but a colored one instead.

Hexigon Blog Hop is here.

It's finally my day for the Hexi Queen Blog Hop. Thanks to Madame Samm and Debby for hosting this fun blog hop.   I like to try new things so here we go.

So I told my friend Sunny at Quilting Dreams that I had signed up for this hop and her advice was "Just do it!"  Then she sent me this postcard.  I love the cute little Hexi's she made and figured I could do it too so I went and bought some Hexi papers and the rest is history.

 I was searching around in the sewing cottage to find inspiration and found this book

   then turned to this page and I swear I could hear the light bulb turn on.

 A few years ago I had participated in a couple of I spy block swaps which left me with 200 different 5 inch I spy blocks.   So here is what I made.  Perfect!  

I quilted it with trucks and cars and plan to give it to my grandson who is 3,  for Christmas this year.

I also had a 10 inch layer cake of I spy blocks and made this little quilt for my youngest grand daughter who just turned 2,  for Christmas.  

A flowered pantograph designed seemed right for her.

Christmas sewing has begun only 6 more quilts to go I better get busy or join more blog hops...

The sewing room isn't complete without more pincushions so I made these using the traditional hexigon pattern sewn by hand.

Nurse scrubs

I was recently contacted by a representative of Uniformed Scrubs who asked if I would be interested in trying a new scrub top in exchange for previewing it on my blog.    I haven't had the chance to do this before but who can turn down free scrubs so I agreed.

I'm not a fan of having my picture taken.

Summer Sewing

It seems like I only blog once a month but hey it's Summer and there is way too much to do!  So in a nutshell July went something like this;

I love participating in the monthly Doll Quilt Swap. I've had partners from everywhere.  These ladies and so fun to work with and are so very creative and inspiring.

Finally got this doll quilt done for my swap partner Pam.  This was supposed to be done in June but like I said it's Summer time.  The theme for June was Fantasy and her fantasy was to have a Quilt Patch. 

 Here is the quilt she sent me.  I have a chicken theme going on in the dining and kitchen area and this is how I used my little chicken quilt.  She asked me what I do with my Doll Quilt Swap quilts  so this is an example.  I'll try to do a blog post soon showing how I use them to decorate my home. Click on the picture for a better view of the little quilt.  Pam is aspiring to become a free motion quilter and she did a lovely job on this little quilt.  Thanks again Pam!

My July swap partner is Karen  who lives in Germany.  We decided on a Summer theme instead of a Patriotic theme with traditional red white and blue.  This is the beautiful quilt she sent me.

Karen has been invited to teach the folded star at her local quilt guild.  She did a Beautiful job on this quilt.  Thank You again Karen.

Vintage Schnibbles 

This month's Vintage Schnibbles Quilt is called  Lincoln and here is my version made from the fabric line called Notting Hill by Robyn Pandolph.

After searching high and low for a long arm quilter to rent I finally gave up and quilted this little baby on my old Kenmore sewing machine and I must say it looks fabulous ( from the back of a galloping horse) that is.  Oh well it's done and I can enter it into the parade on Sinta's Blog.

           

Mom and I are going on a trip for a few days to Idaho to see my brother and family

so I made a couple of Jewelry bags.

We are growing a garden.  The first picked produce this year is beets and these are now pickled.  I love the feeling of accomplishment I get from growing something and putting it up for later.  

     

The Ducks and Geese are getting more tame and can be spoiled hand fed.  

Next month will bring a new Blog Hop, the Hexi Blog Hop!  I'm signed up for August 23rd and have already made a couple of projects to show.  Be sure to come back on August 23rd and see what I've gotten accomplished.  

Wow what a day I've had.  Got ready for work and went into the garage and my car had a flat tire.  I happened to have mom's spare car in my garage so I just loaded my stuff into her car and off I went.  Before I got to my second patient the car started acting up and then it died.  Well that was just not normal her car always works.  I stopped for a few minutes then started it up and got almost home and it died again and wouldn't start so I called my husband to come and rescue me.  It acted like it was out of gas even though the gauge didn't say it was empty.  Well my hero came to help me out and I got out to help push the car off the road.  The door shut and locked with keys, cell phone and everything in it.  Man oh man what a day and it wasn't even Monday.  I sure hope tomorrow goes better.
